  46. 1) INTRODUCTION:
  47.  
  48.                 At last it's here a graphical interface incorporated on a 
  49. queriable database platform for single and multi-user systems. This means
  50. any novice operator can create a data base in two easy steps, as described
  51. under the 'Quick Start' Paragraph. Once the database is initiated the user
  52. can navigate or request information on anyone or a combination of the fields
  53. displayed. In fact wildcard searches on the non Date and Currency fields
  54. facilitates the user need not know the correct spelling of each and every
  55. query item.
  56.                 The application also permits the user to import from some
  57. of the more known Database structures, that being:
  58.  
  59.                         1) FoxPro V2.X
  60.                         2) Paradox  V3,V4,V5
  61.                         3) Dbase III,IV,V etc
  62.                         4) Excel V3,V4,V5
  63.                         5) Text
  64.                         6) Other Xbase Formats.

  67.                 The other pleasant feature incorporated onto this application
  68. is the user friendliness of the error prompts and error handling which
  69. ensures strong tolerance and almost erradicates any occurence of failures or
  70. irrecoverable failures under the windows operating system.

  270.         SEARCH TIPS:
  271.                 Fields can use the wildcard (* or ?) when uncertain of a spelling
  272.                 or precise ammount.

  275.                         i) To search for all occurrences of

  277.                                 john smith - (Last_Name, First_Name) -> Name

  279.                            a) john      - find last name john.

  298.                 Please note the DATE can and will accept wildcards, but the
  299.                 interpretation of the date is from a fixed format of:

  301.                     MM/DD/YY, with zero suppression for MM and DD ONLY,
  302.                     and CENTURY Suppression for YY if in present century.

  304.                 E.G.   07/01/90 is in fact searched as 7/1/90.

  306.                 Wildcard Entries to search for above date are as follows:

  308.                         1) 7*   - Find all dates with July month.
  309.  
  310.                    *    2) 07*  - NOT valid the zero is suppressed in memory
  311.                                   as such your entry must not contain a '0'.

  313.                         3) *90  - Find all 90 th year.
  314.                         4) *0   - Find all years divisible by '10'.
  315.                         5) *1*90- Find all with 1st day of the month in 
  316.                                   the 90 th year.
  317.                         6) *1990- NOT valid, this search for a specific year
  318.                                   only permits CENTURY when it is not the
  319.                                   present century, otherwise use step 3.

  321.                 Complete Date entries searches for the above given date are:

  323.                         1) 070190 - Find all with precise match.
  324.                         2) 010790 - Find all with precise match.

  326.                 (N.B. - The precise match entry is of course dependent on the
  327.                         DATE FORMAT chosen from the main application menu).

  330.         SPEED OPTIMIZATION:
  331.  
  332.              1. Leave SORT option OFF when adding records to a large dataBase
  333.                 This results in the additionall records being added to the
  334.                 end of the Table, and when insertion are at an end then activate
  335.                 the SORT option (Tick ON).
  336.  
  337.              2. When querying to check on data not for corrections set the
  338.                 READ ONLY option to ON, this increases performance, as does
  339.                 using the CHANGE ONLY option.
  340.

  342.         METHODOLOGY:
  343.  
  344.                 The method of operation adopted by this application is to
  345.                 sort on loading the database or when initiating a query
  346.                 irregardless if the SORT option is ticked or not.
  347.  
  348.                 Also when in query mode and the SORT is off so as to speed
  349.                 up changes or insertions, the data entered that does not
  350.                 fit the criteria entered prior to the execute action is 
  351.                 not viewable when navigating. But the counter registers
  352.                 all insertions into the total of that query session.

  358. This is a pre-release for the afore labelled software Package. As such 
  359. Documentation is fairly limited. Despite the straight forward interface
  360. some literature is understood. Hence all help.text or help.hlp files for
  361. this package and others released on behalf of this software house will be
  362. forthcoming to all users who Register the Shareware version of this 
  363. application.

  365. To reduce shipping charges etc, this package is complete in content as that of 
  366. the Registered version. The only files missing are to decrypt and activate 
  367. the other options and remove storage constraints on the Unregistered Version.

  370. GOALS:
  371.         This software release is intended for use by single user stations
  372. although applicapable to Oracle Back end hosts. There is much the single user
  373. cannot enjoy that a queryable environment has to offer. That is spontaneous 
  374. interaction that is enjoyed by only large corporations with powerful Client
  375. Server model systems. Please note however as the Oracle users would notice
  376. the flexibility in error detection and correction when initiating a query within
  377. this model as compared to other Form applications.
